Kathleen Mashek Stasulis ’72 and Steve Stasulis
Although Kathleen Stasulis lives far from Berkeley today, she grew up in neighboring Oakland — and knew all about Cal’s excellence and rich history long before enrolling as a student. “Although my parents didn’t attend Berkeley, we had friends and family who did,” she recalls. “They often hosted a party for the Big Game, so I sort of grew up with the Cal traditions.”
Residents of Virginia Beach, Va., Kathleen and her husband, Steve (an Arizona State alum), maintain strong bonds with their respective alma maters. That includes attending Cal sporting events whenever the Golden Bears head east of the Mississippi — and their enduring connection to Berkeley also includes financial support for the university, which the couple makes in support of Cal’s scholarship programs. “Cal Athletics gives the university great visibility outside of the academic environment,” Kathleen points out.
Despite their distance from campus, the Stasulises have not lost sight of Berkeley’s capacity to improve our world — and the lives of those who study there. “Cal offers an excellent education opportunity,” Kathleen says, “as well as research into areas that will make the planet a better place.”
