Ed Wick ’82
More than 40 years after he earned his degree in chemical engineering, Ed Wick remains active in the UC Berkeley community through his philanthropy. “The purpose of my giving to Berkeley is to help a wide variety of students afford the best college education,” he says, “and to encourage and foster education and interest in science.”
The longtime Houston resident gives back to Berkeley by supporting programs such as the Fiat Lux Scholarship, which provides financial and academic support to high-achieving students from economically challenged communities. The Fiat Lux Scholarship fund he created is named for his late father, Frank Wick ’41, who attended Cal after high school in nearby Oakland.
Ed also gives to The Lawrence Hall of Science, which engages students of all ages in a wide variety of sciences. “That was also one of my first exposures to science,” he recalls of his days on campus. That experience helped set Ed on his career path. Now retired, he worked for nearly 35 years at Chevron, specializing in natural gas gathering, treating, and gas processing, and training hundreds of employees in the same areas.
“The future needs well-educated students who think critically, contribute to society, and become tomorrow’s leaders,” Ed says. “Cal provides this education, and we can all show our leadership by funding its programs.”
